SEEDS: a cross-pollination in metal
Regine Schwarzer & Nataša Milenović
Two German gold and metalsmith migrants reunite after 25 years, intertwining their acclaimed techniques and approaches through mutual inspiration.
SEEDS - symbolises hope, diversity, and new beginnings in their adopted homeland, exploring the parallels between immigration and the journey of seeds.
Just as migrants bring new life and diversity to a country, seeds represent the potential for growth, resilience, and adaptation. Seeds are time capsules of life, having the capacity to harbour potential until the right conditions arise and resonate with the feelings and emotions we experienced starting a new life in Australia. This project delves into the symbolic meanings associated with seeds and migration, examining their ability to transform, as well as representing an expression of hope for the future. It utilises their abilities of patience, perseverance, and intuition to thrive in new environments.
This duo exhibition is held in conjunction with the Radiant Pavilion jewellery and object bienale 14 - 22 September 2024 in Melbourne/ Naarm, the biggest biennial of its kind in the southern hemisphere. Radiant Pavilion brings a focus to the important contribution that contemporary jewellery and object practice makes to the creative and cultural sector. It is a celebration of diversity - in makers, in methods, in themes, and in materials.
